Habit/Description:

Beautiful small flowering tree with rounded canopy. Glossy green foliage. Dark red exfoliating bark. Full sun- can tolerate part shade, but will not flower as heavily. Deciduous.

Size at Maturity:

Moderate grower to 15-20' tall and 15' wide.

Flower:

Gorgeous purple panicle flowers in summer.

Special Interest:

Stunning large purple flowers in summer, bright red/orange fall color in fall with dark red exfoliating red bark to show off in the winter make this a multi-interest tree. Perfect for corner foundations, mixed borders, masses, specimen, urban and woodland gardens, containers and fire-scaping. Easy care other than pruning. Drought tolerant.

Care Information:

Thrives in average, well-drained soil. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency, once established. Feed in early spring. Thin young trees late winter to early spring; leave 3 to 7 main trunks or canopy branches. Remove suckers from the base of older trees.Pruning time: late winter or early spring. Prune selectively- DO NOT SHEAR or TOP. May require clean up of old seed pods if planted near a sidewalk.

‘Tom Thumb’ Cotoneaster

Habit/Description:

Compact little evergreen shrub or groundcover. Semi-evergreen. Dark green leaves. Full sun.

Size at Maturity:

Moderate grower to 1-2' tall and spreads up to 5' wide.

Little white flower in summer.

Special Interest:

The best feature of this plant is the bright red berries in the fall and persisting until winter. Best used as a barrier, border, ground cover, erosion control, espalier, firescaping, hedge, mass planting, rock and wildlife gardens. 

Care Information:

Grows easily in average, well-drained soils. Adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions, but does not do well in hot, humid climates. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish an extensive root system; reduce frequency once established. Apply fertilizer in early spring. For a tidy appearance, prune annually to shape.Pruning time: summer after flowering.

Beautiful ornamental tree with a rounded crown and arching branches. Glossy medium green, large textured leaves. Deciduous. Full sun.

Size at Maturity: 

Fast growing tree to 25' tall and wide.

Flower: 

Powdery pink flowers in spring before leafing out. Attracts bees and butterflies.

Special Interest:

Wonderful spring interest with soft pink flowers standing out before foliage. Fall brings creamy yellow leaves which fall in order to show the pretty, silver-grey bark underneath, heavily laden with lenticels. Great tree for a specimen, urban and woodland garden, mixed borders, patio tree, corner foundation and yard tree. Rapid growth rate and easy care. One of the first plants to bloom in the spring.

Care Information:

Water thoroughly when first planted and follow a regular watering schedule until established with an extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth in the spring. Prune for shape and structure after flowering. Prune more heavily in winter.
