PRODUCT REVIEW- Hampton Bay SOLAR LED Spotlight #234-855

As a Landscape Architect, I get many requests for information on products that I have used on my projects. This happens so often, I have decided to post product reviews for those particular products as further education and information for my customers.   This is the second post on SOLAR LED LIGHTING. The fixture I am reviewing is the HAMPTON BAY Solar LED Spotlight, which I purchased at Home Depot for $19.99. The rating system will be as follows:

RATING SYSTEM:
*            Does not meet expectations
**          Below Expectations
***        Meets Expectations
****      Above Expectations
*****    Significantly Exceeds Expectations

The Product I reviewed  this week and the ratings:

HAMPTON BAY LED landscape Spotlight (sold individually at Home Depot)
Using the stake mounting option, I installed this fixture directly into the soil of a sunny spot for at least 8 hours before test. NOTE: Make sure that the battery protecting tab is removed before inserting it into the soil.

HAMPTON BAY Solar LED Spotlight Item # 234-855- This solar light is constructed of a plastic  covered with black finish. The fixture stands 8.25" tall using post mount fixture or  12.5" tall using stake mount.  (NOTE: When you insert this fixture in the ground, it will only stand about 7" tall.)The literature for this product lists the lumen output to be 13.5 lumens.

RATING OF THIS PRODUCT: This product met the expectations advertised. The light fixture was easy to use and set up. The adjustable spot light, and (2) mounting brackets were nice added features.
THIS PRODUCT GETS A RATING OF *** (Meet expectations.)

I was skeptical of the output of this light fixture, but was pleasantly surprised. I am going to use (2) of these fixtures to highlight a large container focal point in my garden. I will post a follow up review detailing the longevity of this product.

FOLLOW UP: After two weeks this product stopped working- very disappointing. I have reduced my rating to **
